Use this page to understand the next steps, prepare for safety training, and find the correct path for forms and operational support.
Your exact checklist depends on your role, state, vehicle, school district, and client program. Recruiting or Operations will tell you which items apply. Do not complete or purchase a step that One KC Express has not requested.
Submit the driver application and keep your phone and email current so the recruiting team can reach you.
Complete only the background, driving-record, vehicle, insurance, and other screening steps that apply to your assignment.
Complete required instruction for child passenger safety, defensive driving, emergency response, accessibility equipment, and client procedures.
Learn how to review route details, communicate appropriately, report changes, and follow the approved trip workflow.
Where applicable, keep required registration, insurance, inspection, safety equipment, restraints, and accessibility equipment current.
After the applicable steps are approved, Operations can discuss route availability and provide assignment-specific instructions.
Complete any extra client, district, accessibility, behavior, vehicle, app, or student-support steps tied to your route.
Confirm the approved vehicle, route details, passenger instructions, equipment, communication channel, and who to contact before starting.
Respectful communication, passenger supervision, safe loading and unloading, seat belts, child restraints, and privacy.
Call 911 first for an emergency, then notify the appropriate Dispatch or One KC Express contact and complete the required client or program report.
When assigned, use wheelchair lifts, ramps, securements, and other accessibility equipment exactly as trained.
Monitor approved work communications, follow Operations instructions, and never improvise a student handoff or destination.
Complete required pre-trip, post-trip, cleanliness, equipment, and safety checks for your vehicle and assignment.
Use the approved Driver App or Dispatch workflow for trip questions, delays, incidents, and operational changes.
Recognize escalating behavior, use calm communication, follow the student’s approved support instructions, and request help early.
No drugs or alcohol while driving, unsafe cell-phone use, discrimination, retaliation, unsafe touching, or conduct that compromises student dignity.
You may receive one or more tracks. One KC Express will tell you which track applies before you begin. Requirements from one client or program do not automatically apply to every One KC Express route.

Complete lift, ramp, securement, restraint, and equipment training before accepting an accessible assignment.
Correct approved vehicle, current inspection and equipment, fuel or charge, seat belts, restraints, and accessibility equipment if assigned.

Driver App access, Dispatch contact, emergency procedure, delay-reporting method, and client-specific reporting instructions.
Review only the approved information provided for the student, protect privacy, and ask before the trip if anything is unclear.
One KC Express may request forms or records during onboarding. Because requirements differ by role and location, the team will tell you which documents are needed and how to submit them securely.
Contact One KC Express at 816-477-1375 or contact@schooltransit.com. We can tell you which onboarding path applies to your role.
SMS consent is separate from onboarding. If you want optional messages about application updates, hiring, onboarding, Dispatch, routes, schedule changes, safety alerts, inspections, training, or work reminders, use the standalone consent form or the separate checkbox on the driver application.
